1.CONTAIN, HOLD, COMPRISE, CONSIST OF Contain означает 'иметь внутри, содержать в себе': box containing apples, bookcase containing books, report containing valuable proposals. Comprise означает 'включать, охватывать': course of study comprising literature, history and languages; dictionary comprising 60,000 words. Consist of имеет значение 'состоять из, быть сделанным из': most cakes consist of flour, sugar, eggs and milk. 2. CONSIST OF, IN Consist of означает 'состоять из, быть сделанным, изготовленным из чего-л.': water consists of hydrogen and oxygen; the book consists of ten chapters (в данном случае дополнение выражено конкретным существительным). (сочетается с отвлеченным существительным или герундием): the moral code of a builder of communism consists in devotion to the cause of communism, love for the socialist motherland and the countries of socialism; the work of a camera-man consists in shooting films.Difficulties of the English language (lexical reference) English-Russian dictionary > consist
